Tips For Disciplining Your Children

Do you ever look at your friends’ kids who are very well behaved and wish yours were also similar? If this sounds like you, you probably have not taken the time to introduce any discipline or rules in the household that the kids have to follow.

However, not having rules and not implementing discipline can cause a lot of problems for your children in the long run as most kids who are not disciplined tend to grow up with the belief that they can control the people around them with their anger tantrums and rage. Often times, great kids come out of homes where discipline and rules were implemented at a very young age. The time out method is a commonly used method among parents and the key to success with this method is consistency because when your kids display erratic and violent behavior, if you coddle them or cave into them requesting for something, their behavior is only going to get worse because they will get the idea that mommy and daddy is not in control and that they are in control.

The way to implement this rule is to first offer your child a warning when they are misbehaving so bend down to their level, maintain eye contact and tell them that if they do the act again that they will going into time out. If your kids are notorious, they will be most likely to overlook it and go ahead with it anyway. Once they do so, take your child to a designated time out chair or room and ask them to sit there and if they try to run away, keep placing them back in the chair until they say sorry. Let them know that a genuine sorry will be the only way to get out of the time out.
